About Me

Erin Antenen, LICSW

Therapist specializing in women's cancer care.

I am an oncology social worker and psychotherapist. I am passionate about working with women with cancer, particularly breast cancer. Prior to starting a private practice I worked as the social worker for a large community cancer center in Maryland. I am knowledgeable about many types of cancer, and treatment options including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. I have experience navigating complex systems to help with questions about insurance, disability, and employment. I also have experience in hospice and psychosocial support at the end of life, and helping those caring for a loved one with cancer. Prior to working in medical social work I was a clinical intern in the Counseling Center at Bryn Mawr College, and love working with young adult women who are navigating illness themselves or in their families.

My therapeutic style is warm, empathetic, and supportive. I approach illness from a whole-person perspective and believe that emotional and spiritual health is an important part of healing and overall wellness. I work within a humanistic framework, which emphasizes your inherent strengths and encourages self-exploration. I teach coping skills for getting through this stressful time of life, and use elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy to help reframe how you think about yourself and your diagnosis. I also have experience in couple's counseling and I am happy to offer occasional couple or family sessions to discuss concerns together, although my primary role as your therapist is to support you as an individual.

In our work together, I create space for you to process and grow through your experience with cancer or other serious illnesses. Therapy offers a safe place to ask questions, to think creatively and problem solve, and to let yourself be vulnerable during this difficult time. I also recognize that cancer doesn't happen in a vacuum, and invite you to discuss the other issues in your life that affect your ability to cope with your diagnosis.

I look forward to working with you!
